G321: E.T.H.A.N Audition Script

This is our audition script and it differs from our normal script in some ways because we wanted to see the range that actors could do for us and how well they could be directed when on camera.

E.T.H.A.N

 (Audition Copy)

(Ethan and Tom Audition)

EXT: Ethan outside in the garden playing by himself, sees something move in the bushes, he enters into the woods at the back of his garden to feed his curiosity he then sees Tom his brother; Tom is Ethan’s dead brother who was a little over two years older than him, he looks a little bit taller and more wise but still in the age range; speaking to his dead brother for the first time, Ethan doesn’t really understand what is going on due to his age but is still in some surprise and happiness.

Ethan

Tom? Where have you been? I’ve been looking everywhere for you, mum won’t tell me where you’ve gone

Tom

I’ve been busy Eth

Ethan

Oh (pauses) Mum’s been crying, this doctor person has been making mum cry (pause) have I done something wrong?

Tom

(long pause) Tell her it’s ok, tell her I’m happy, tell her (pause) I miss her and you

Ethan

Are you coming back?

Tom

I never went anywhere Eth

Ethan

(Pause) Tom?

Tom

Yeah?

Ethan

Do you wanna play?

Tom

Sure.

EXT: Both Tom and Ethan exit playing catch

(Doctor Michael Staines Audition)

INT: Ethan sat on floor with a box of toys whilst playing with one of the toys. A voice over of Doctor Michael Staines speaking to Victoria. Doctor Staines is breaking the news to Victoria that her child has developed a new psychological disease that is being researched into.

Michael Staines

Miss Hilling would you like to take a seat?

Victoria Hilling

No I am fine thank you

Michael Staines

Right well from our analysis of Ethan, we are afraid to tell you that he has contracted a new form of Schizophrenia called Erythrocyte Transmitting Hydrogen disorder also known as E.T.H, at the moment we are unaware of exactly the problem but we know it is purely psychological, we will be doing everything we can to try and help Ethan and find the cause of the problem.

Victoria Hilling

(Pause) Right

Michael Staines

Miss Hilling we are aware of everything you are going through at the moment but we do severely suggest that you do not tell Ethan about this and visit us every Thursday. Thank you.

(Vicky Audition)

INT: Vicky is going about her daily business and upset while her voiceover plays in the background about what her life used to be like and how it has changed.

Victoria Hilling

(Victoria is speaking to the audience in a voiceover about her life, she is extremely upset and angry, with many pauses and hesitations)
It never used to be like this you know. All this torment, frustration and rage, this never used to be here, back then, we had it all. The perfect family. Perfect house. Perfect everything. Then the cruel fate of God has to stick his nose in and fuck everything up. I mean why me?! I attend church, pray every night, do everything the fucking lord asks of me, yet somehow it is not good enough for him. (pause) He has to come and take everything of mine! And if that was not good enough, he now has to punish the only son I have left. If there is a God, I’m not sure if I even believe now (pause) but if so. I have one thing to say to you… fuck you

These are the final locations that we will be using;

The first location that will be used is a small-medium house in Ongar, the lounge will be used in the first scene for when Ethan is playing with his toy truck.
This is the hallway that we are going to use when Ethan walks out of the bedroom, down the hallway and into the kitchen.

This is the kitchen that we are going to use, it is also in the house pictured above and when fiming it will be the scene where Ethan looks at the photo.

This is the table that we will be using when Ethan picks up the picture frame and shouts "Noooooooo".

G321: Why We Chose Our Film Title

The film title we chose was E.T.H.A.N which stands for erythrocyte transmitting hydrogen amylase neurosis which is the disorder our main character contracts. It stands for schizophrenia and word by word in biological terms that there is not enough hydrogen in the blood in the brain causing the character Ethan to not feel any emotion and other effects that are shown throughout our whole film. The film itself is aimed to show that this is a new disease and no doctors know what is happening, while Doctor Michael Staines is searching for the cure. We decided to choose this as our title because it made sense towards the character as it is his name and also to attract audiences with this new kind of film title as there are no other films with this.

G321: Institutional Logo Final

This is the final institutional logo, we thought we would use this one because we wanted to contrast our light hearted logo and give it a kind of dark feel to it due to our movie being a thriller, our institution usually make comedies but we decided to make a thriller so this is why our logo does not exactly fit for this kind of genre of film but for this film we will make it look sinister and dark. We also chose this logo because our studio is called Narwhal Studios so it fits in with our production company name. We believed this was the best looking logo and the one that captured our company the most.

G321: Institutional Logo Initial Ideas

Connors ideas: This are my drawn ideas

This is my design I did on the computer

Dans idea: This is my idea, I made it this way because it is completely non copyright made so we do not need to pay anyone thus giving us more money for special effects on our actual film, I also didn't add any text so we can give it special effects on iMovie.

Jacks idea:

Jack: This is the idea for the institutional logo. It thought that because we are called Narwhal Studios that the obvious choice was to involve a narwhal in the logo. Then to add to this, I decided to add a sea-like background with our institutional name underneath the swimming narwhal

G321: Characters in our Film Opening

Ethan

Ethan is the main character to our film and is son to Victoria Hilling, in our film we see the after affects to the traumatic event he has experienced. Upon witnessing the death of his brother Tom, Ethan spiralled into a depression that sunk all of his emotions and gained a new form of schizophrenia called E.T.H also known as Erythrocyte Transmitting Hydrogen disorder, this disorder means he is unable to feel any emotion to anyone and the doctors are sat trying to figure it out. In my film we follow Ethans journey to eventually coming to love and feel all emotions again.

Victoria Hilling

Vicky is our second main character and is mother to Ethan, the story follows her relationship between her son. Her story is gripping and emotional on how she works her way out of depression and love for her son.

Doctor Michael Staines

Doctor Michael Staines is the doctor of Ethan and is the one who finds the cure eventually for Ethans disease, we see Michael Staines' story how he is obsessed with his work and shows the passion he has for saving this child from getting worse. He has and emotional grip towards Ethan because of his own son and he knows how he would feel if anything every happened to his son.

Tom Hilling

Tom is brother to Ethan and recently diciest, we follow his journey on the relationship he had with his brother and how he met his death and uncovering the reason behind Ethans psychological disease.

G321: Certification of Film Opening

Our film opening is going to be certified as a 15. This is because it will be sinister and mysterious and we feel thet it should be for people aged over 15. Our film as a whole wont include; discrimination, not any nudity, no sexual references will be included and wont include themes. Our film opening will include; limited use of drugs, some horror, some dangerous behaviour such as self-harming and there will be strong language included.

G321: Why We Choose our Title

The title to our film is E.T.H.A.N, we chose this title because it stands for the name of the disease we have for our main character in our piece, the disease is Erythrocyte Transmitting Hydrogen Amylaise Nearosis which means in medical terms that there is too much hydrogen in the blood with is being passed to the brain thus shutting down certain parts of the brain, in this chase Ethans emotions and feelings causing him to be neurotic. This title is great for our piece because it is used and also linked into our actual storyline, so the title does not give away anything about the film but adds some mystery to it. Also it is medically correct and there is nothing like it before so it is a new disease so it is acurate to actual life, making the audience believe our piece is correct and able to happen, so to an active audience they may believe the film more because they understand that our disease is acurate.

G321: Title Timeline for our Genre

This is the title sequence to Sin City. Sin City is thriller and is 18 which is what our DVD copy will be rated. It is good to look at a time line of other films in this genre because it helps us get an idea of where we would like our titles to be and in what order. This is the timeline for the opening of Sin City.

0:00-0:02 - T1 Actor Name (Rutger Hauer) Fades in/out - Start
0:02-0:04 - T2 Actor Name (Jaime King) Fades in/out
0:04-0:06 - T3 Actor Name (Michael Madson) Fades in/out
0:06-0:08 - T4 Actor Name (Brittany Murphy) Fades in/out
0:08-0:11 - T5 Actor Name (Clive Owen) Fades in/out
0:11-0:14 - T6 Actor Name (Mickey Rourke) Fades in/out
0:14-0:16 - T7 Actor Name (Nick Stahl) Fades in/out
0:16-0:19 - T8 Actor Name (Bruce Willis) Fades in/out
0:19-0:22 - T9 Actor Name (Elijah Wood) Fades in/out
0:22-0:28 - T10 Writer (Frank Miller) Fades in/out
0:29-0:32 - T11 Casting Director (Mary Vernieu) Fades in/out
0:32-0:35 - T12 Line Producer (Bill Scott) Fades in/out
0:35-0:38 - T13 Editor (Robert Rodriguez) Fades in/out
0:38-0:41 - T14 Music (Robert Rodriguez, John Debney, Graeme Revell) Fades in/out
0:42-0:45 - T15 Executive Producers (Bob Weinstein, Harvey Weinstein) Fades in/out
0:45-0:48 - T16 Producer (Elizabeth Avellan) Fades out/in
0:49-0:52 - T17 Special Guest Director (Quentin Tarrantino) Fades in/out
0:52-0:57 - T18 Directors (Frank Miller, Robert Rodriguez) Fades in/out
0:57-1:00 - Fin

This Timeline shows us that all the main actors names come first and also the directors name comes last, this will be something i use in my opening because it draws the audience in by having the big name actors first. Also what I see from this is that the directors name is the longest because they are the most important and also how some actors have 1 second more than others, this is possibly because they are better known stars so it makes the audience more drawn in.
